When you install ANTS Profiler, add-ins to Visual Studio .NET 2003 and Visual Studio 2005 are automatically installed for you. The add-ins enable you to profile performance or memory usage from within Visual Studio; you then run your application and profile it in ANTS Profiler.
Depending on the context of the code editor, the following options are provided on the ANTS menu in Visual Studio:
- Performance Profiler
Profiles the performance of the whole application.
This option is also available as a toolbar button
- Memory Profiler
Profiles the memory usage of the whole application.
This option is also available as a toolbar button
- Profile Namespace
Profiles only the performance of the current namespace.
This option is also available when you right-click the namespace in the code editor.
- Profile Class
Profiles only the performance of the current class.
This option is also available when you right-click the class in the code editor.
- Profile Method
Profiles only the performance of the current method.
This option is also available when you right-click the method in the code editor.
- Launch ANTS Profiler
Starts the ANTS Profiler graphical user interface; or switches to the current ANTS Profiler project, if it is already running. See Working with ANTS Profiler for an overview of how you use the ANTS Profiler graphical user interface.
If you are profiling a .NET desktop application, a Web application hosted in IIS, or a Web application hosted in the ASP.NET Development Server (Visual Studio 2005 only), when ANTS Profiler starts and it displays the Profiler Project Wizard, the wizard settings are automatically entered for you (including any custom filters for namespaces, classes, or methods). Review the settings, and then click Finish to run your application and start profiling.
