Choosing the Methods to Profile

Choosing the Profiler Type > Choosing the Application Type > Specifying the Application Details > Choosing the Methods to Profile

The Choose what to code to profile page of the Profiler Project Wizard enables you to specify the methods to profile in your application, if you are profiling performance.

Select:

Only .NET methods that have source code to profile only methods in your application that have been compiled with debug information; this is the default setting.
The .pdb files must be in the same folder as the executable file or .dll files.

You are recommended to use this option because it excludes .NET Framework methods.
All .NET methods to profile all the methods used by your application, including those from .NET Framework assemblies.
Select this option only if you are interested in performance across all of the .NET Framework.
Custom filter to include or exclude methods with names that begin with particular strings.
Click Edit to specify the filter.

Select:
- Do not profile .NET methods that start with to exclude methods when profiling.
- Only profile .NET methods that start with to include only specific methods when profiling.
Specify the required strings on separate lines, using fully qualified names.

Click OK.

Click Finish.

ANTS Profiler displays a message dialog box. Click Yes to start profiling your application. See Working with ANTS Profiler for information about profiling your application.

When you have finished profiling your application, a summary of the results is displayed in the main window.
