Source code Panel

The Source code panel displays the source code for a method selected in the Summary panel or the All methods panel. The list at the top of the panel shows the current method; to display the source code for other methods in the current source file, select the method.

In the source code, you can:

copy code to the clipboard
Select the required code, right-click, and then click Copy.
select all the code in the current source file
Right-click and click Select all.
find a particular string
Right-click and click Find; a standard Windows® Find dialog box is displayed.
find the next instance of a particular string, if you have already searched for that string
Right-click and click Find next.

Detailed mode

When you profile using detailed mode, the following information is shown for each line of source code that was executed:

Line is the line number in the source code
Hit count is the number of times the line of source code was executed
Time (sec.) is the total execution time of the line of source code in seconds; a red bar indicates the slowest lines of code in the current source code file; the longer the bar, the slower the line of code.

Fast mode

When you profile using fast mode, the following information is shown for each method:

Line is the line number in the source code
Hit count is the number of times the method was executed
Time (sec.) is the total execution time of the method in seconds
A red bar indicates the slowest methods in the current source code file; the longer the bar, the slower the method.

A fully-shaded gray bar with a zero hit count indicates methods that were inlined every time they were executed.

A fully-shaded gray bar with a non-zero hit count indicates methods that were inlined by some calls but not others.

A part-red, part-gray bar indicates methods that were inlined by some calls but not others.

Note the following:

Methods are inlined by the .NET Framework runtime only when you build your application with the optimization option enabled.
Timings that are shown as zero mean that the method was inlined; if there are no timings shown, the method was not executed.
Hit counts may be lower than expected. This is because hits on inlined methods are not included in the hit count.
